Sycip's Shimano Showcase Submission Shines
Irvine, CA (October 12, 2001) - The Interbike Shimano Showcase took off on an adventure for 2001. The theme, "Adventure Racing-Explore A New Market" challenged bicycle manufacturers to design a Deore component based bike around the needs of the hottest racing segment going today. Invitations were sent to large OEMs and small framebuilders alike to participate in the 7th edition of the Shimano Showcase at Interbike.
Submissions were asked to address the specific needs of this racing discipline. Features like tow bars, coupling devices, racks, and yes, even pontoons showed themselves on 18 outstanding entries. "Every entry showed a distinct creativity and that is exactly what the Showcase is about." said Shimano's Dustin Brady. He went on to add, "Everyone's enthusiasm has been great. The builders were excited, the show attendees were excited, and, hey, we're excited too."
Voting for this year's Showcase was done by a panel of industry experts. Three retailers, three writers, three athletes, and three of Shimano's brightest spent three days viewing, reviewing, and judging the entries. And the winner is....Sycip Rallye! And going away we might add. Second Place went to the Giant NRS Raid with the Soulcraft Holy Roller in third place to round out the podium.
The SyCip Rallye, with it's integrated racks and tow bars, S&S
couplings, and durable construction is a perfect choice for any
adventure race out there. The bike, we're told, was inspired by
the go-anywhere cars and trucks of the Paris-Dakar race. See for
yourself with the attached photo,
it's perfect!
SyCip Party Planner, Jeremy SyCip was thrilled to receive the Shimano Showcase #1 bib and had this to say in response, "Thanks!". Well said Jeremy. Congratulations to you and everyone at SyCip.
In a year of change and with considerable work to be done before the show we'd like to commend the folks listed below for their efforts in preparing the outstanding bicycles for this year's Showcase. Thanks everybody!
