Anything else you would like to add?
Ginger Sugar Cookies
aka San Andreas fault cookies because of the cracks in the top. My little sister Hillary coined this phrase when she was 3 or 4.
- ¾ cup shortening
- 1 cup sugar
cream thoroughly until fluffy, then add
- 1 egg
- ¼ cup molasses
blend
sift and fold in:
- 2 cups flour
- ¼ tsp salt
- 2 tsp baking soda
- 1 tsp ground ginger
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- 1 tsp ground cloves
refrigerate the dough 1 hour. Will keep in the fridge for a few days. As the caption in my McCall's circa 1954 cookbook says: The way to a husband's (or child's) heart is by having some refrigerator cookie dough on hand for that special treat. Or something like that.
A 1.5 inch scoop works best for portion control, otherwise roll into uniform balls, roll in large grain raw sugar, and place on ungreased cookie sheet. 350 degrees – 7-9 minutes depending on size of cookie.
